We create digital experiences that spark curiosity and open new perspectives on art, culture and knowledge.

New ways into art, culture and knowledge

Exploring a building right up to its roof, entering an artist's world of ideas or investigating a scientific connection: we create digital experiences that spark curiosity and open new perspectives.

Our applications combine content with stories, encounters and personal discovery. Visitors explore spaces, examine details, meet experts and choose which questions they want to pursue.

We combine film, interactive 360° environments, illustration, animation, sound and 3D with individually developed interpretation concepts. The result is digital content for museums, cultural institutions, exhibitions, science and public learning – from a single interactive station to an extensive virtual world.

Discuss a cultural project

From content to personal discovery

What makes an artwork interesting? Which stories lie within a building? And how can a complex subject be presented in a way that makes people want to look more closely?

We develop approaches that begin with the distinctive qualities of a subject. A surprising detail can provide an introduction, a personal story can create a connection, and an interactive task can make a relationship understandable.

Together with our clients, we establish the focus and the freedom visitors will have to explore. Some experiences guide people through a story; others invite open discovery. Different levels of detail allow for a brief introduction as well as more in-depth engagement.

Different kinds of encounter

Digital cultural and knowledge experiences can take many forms: a virtual tour, an interactive exhibition, a filmed encounter or an imagined world that connects ideas, objects and stories.

Filmed people, digital guides or animated characters can guide visitors through the content. Visitors discover hidden details, complete search tasks, select conversation topics or explore three-dimensional spaces as a way into different subjects.

The design itself can also become part of the interpretation. Images, movement and sound convey atmosphere, while interactive elements invite closer observation and personal connections. We choose these elements according to the content and character of each project.

Real spaces and distinctive insights

One of Kubikfoto's particular strengths is interactive experiences based on real film and 360° footage.

Cultural landmarks, exhibition spaces, studios and research sites become digitally accessible. People can look around, discover details and meet those who know these places, work there or tell their stories.

This can also open up areas that are only partly accessible during a regular visit. Historical images, close-up views, interviews and animations add to the spatial exploration and offer further perspectives.

Applications can be developed for computers, tablets and smartphones. An additional VR version can provide a spatial experience on suitable headsets.

Digital interpretation across culture and knowledge

Museums and exhibitions
Interactive applications complement exhibits, reveal background stories and make connections visible. They can accompany an exhibition visit or make selected content accessible regardless of location.
Art and artistic perspectives
Digital spaces offer individual approaches to works, creative processes and ideas. Original materials, personal stories and creative interpretations can combine into a distinctive encounter with art.
Architecture and cultural heritage
Virtual tours open up buildings, monuments and remarkable spaces. Architecture, use and history can be communicated through spatial exploration, detailed views and encounters with experts.
Science and research
Interactive formats can make research questions, methods and findings understandable. Real insights, clear explanations and explorable connections provide access for people with different levels of knowledge.
Collections and archives
Selected objects and materials can be digitally connected and explored through stories, themes or questions. This can also bring attention to collections that are rarely displayed on site.
Cultural education and public learning
Playful tasks, personal stories and open discovery experiences invite engagement with cultural and scientific subjects. We adapt language, scope and interactions to the audience.

Content collaboration and creative interpretation

We also contribute to the content of cultural and knowledge projects. We research background information, review existing materials, propose topics and write texts, scripts, dialogue and tasks.

Together with curatorial teams, artists, editorial teams and experts, we explore what makes a subject distinctive. We are interested in its factual foundations as well as personal perspectives, surprising details and connections to other fields.

This collaboration shapes the digital interpretation concept. We agree which content should be explained, narrated or made accessible through personal exploration. Expert review and approval are built into the project schedule.

For artistic projects, we also clarify the relationship between original material and creative interpretation. This makes it possible to distinguish what belongs to the original work and where a new digital exploration begins.

Before, during and after a visit

A digital experience can spark interest in an institution, accompany a visit and encourage further engagement afterwards. It can also stand on its own, reaching people who cannot visit in person.

Content, scope and navigation depend on where and how the experience is used. A brief interaction in an exhibition space has different requirements from an extended exploration at home.

Technology that fits the experience

Our applications are primarily browser-based and can be accessed through a link or integrated into existing websites. Presentation and navigation are optimised for the intended devices.

Touchscreen applications and additional VR experiences can be developed for on-site use. We consider the physical setting, typical duration of use and the transition between visitors.

We include multilingual content and accessibility measures in the concept at an early stage. These can include subtitles, transcripts, keyboard navigation, clear language and alternative ways to access visual or spatial content. We also clarify at the start of the project which content should be available for later editorial additions or updates.

From the first idea to a digital experience

Together, we define the subject, audience and context of use. We review existing material, carry out additional research and develop the content structure and design approach.

This is followed by texts, scripts, interaction concepts, design and media production. Our development team brings these elements together in an application whose content, atmosphere and navigation work in harmony.

We involve subject specialists and curatorial project partners throughout production. Before publication, we test functionality and usability on the intended devices. Visitor testing can be included in the project schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Which institutions does Kubikfoto create digital cultural and knowledge experiences for?

We develop applications for museums, cultural institutions, exhibitions, art projects, scientific institutions and public learning. Content and design are adapted to each institution, its subjects and its audience.

Does a digital exhibition have to recreate a real space?

A digital exhibition can be based on real spaces or designed as an independent world. Depending on the content, suitable approaches might include virtual tours, thematic spaces, interactive stories or freely explorable connections between objects and subjects.

Can artworks be experienced interactively?

Yes. Details, materials, creative processes and underlying ideas can be explored digitally. Spatial interpretations and interactions with visual elements are also possible. We agree how works are used with the artists or the relevant rights holders.

Does Kubikfoto also handle research and writing?

Yes. We can research background information, structure materials and develop texts, scripts, dialogue and tasks. We collaborate with our clients' curatorial and specialist teams or other experts.

Can existing photographs, films and collection data be used?

Yes. Existing media and data can provide a foundation. Together, we assess their quality, available usage rights and options for digital adaptation. Additional footage, animations or texts can be created where needed.

Can digital experiences be used both on site and online?

Yes. Content can be adapted for both settings. Navigation and scope are adjusted accordingly: an exhibition station needs a quick starting point, while an online experience can allow more time for extended exploration.

Is a VR headset required?

Many of our applications work directly in the browser on a computer, tablet or smartphone. An additional VR version can be developed where a spatial experience offers an appropriate approach to the content.

Can content be added later or adapted for new exhibitions?

Yes, provided that the concept allows for future expansion. Depending on the project, content can be maintained through a content management system, additional topics can be introduced or individual modules can be adapted to new contexts.

Can the experiences include accessibility measures and multiple languages?

Yes. Requirements should be defined early so that design, content and technology can be planned accordingly. Possible measures include subtitles, transcripts, keyboard navigation, alternative presentations and additional language versions.

What would you like to open up to discovery?

Whether it is an artwork, an exhibition, a special place or a scientific subject, we work with you to create a digital approach that reflects the distinctive qualities of your content and invites people to explore.
